Jogging the Mind

A place for poetry and pondering.

Verse Poem 27

It’s been a while. I took the summer to write 35,000 words of a novel that MAYBE will make money. Obviously, it’s not done, but since I am busy again poetry is all I’ve had time to commit to. I prefer poetry, the novel’s just because that’s what you do, you know? This one sort of satirizes a bunch of poems by imitating their sounds and formats–I really like the Ozymandias reference. Anyway, let me know what you think if you decide to read it.

Your Morning News Feed
See no evil, blinded pupils,
For I offer you clarity,
Contact lenses, taller fences,
And the numbing of the senses.
Hear no evil, speak no evil,
My deaf-mute friends,
Read the paper, hate your neighbor,
And love me all the more.

Hear me, preach me, I beseech thee,
Look upon my works, and despair:
I am a cozy candy-ass, spreading fast
The immortal message on my video cast.
Join the cult of reason, we’ve got guillotines galore,
In the struggle session season,
Where gore is de rigueur, blood is mi amor, and death’s our only score—
So, find your heart of darkness, thumping in the floor,
Because this is justice, trust us, it won’t affect the poor.
And remember, this is war, so honor what you swore:
Kill the Boer (shoot shoot!), it’s the hatred we adore,
But don’t take this literal, this is clearly a metaphor.
