Jogging the Mind

A place for poetry and pondering.

Verse Poem 11

Hello all,

I watched the inauguration yesterday and I know change is coming but there is something bigger than a new administration. Technology is at a strange place right now and people are not able to cope, or keep up, in a healthy way. I think we’ve already past the point of no return, but AI and social media have been especially terrifying to me as of late, so I wrote what I wrote below. Anyway, let me know what you think, if you decide to read it.

Best,

JCO

Digital Demiurge
Altman, Bezos, Pichai, Huffman, Zuckerberg--
The Silicon Olympians of the Digital Demiurge,
Divine in their design of that which it defines:
Truth, reality, and their decided morality

A few strokes of the keys within these new oligarchies
Dictate decisions, rewrite definitions, redefine intuition
Because virtual victory rewrites history, shrouding all
In mystery or obscuring with sophistry so that it’s all messy

Artificially intelligent ideas are officially intelligent schemas,
Internet arbiters and admins alike are harbingers of
Whatever they like--in their idiocracy technocracy,
Anything is applicable and cannot be unpalatable

Opinion is their dominion, dominating discourse
So that there’s recourse for wrongthink, you
Cannot be distinct from the new collective instinct
That you must think because it is the only thing to think

Data mining and eventually status-defining
Social credit scores will crush uproars in their utopia--
Posting in a panopticon, except their eyes are always on
You, able to stabilize, subdue, or eschew the unwanted few

The aortic rhythm of the algorithm never beat so fast,
Or so brutally while still fruitfully fooling us to mutiny--
Though, this is a eulogy because I’ve uselessly
Described that which we’ve already imbibed--
The Digital Demiurge.
